Tokyo Game Market 2019 Spring Report

Tokyo Game Market 2019 Spring was held on 25th and 26th May.

The new hall Aomi Exhibition Hall is cheaply-built, but near to the station.

I was at my booth all day on 25th, and I stayed only two hours on 26th, so I can not sufficient report. But I have to mention "Kaiju on the Earth" project.

Japanese board game company Arclight and Drosselmeyer's announced "Kaiju on the Earth" project.
In this project, Japanese board game designers Masato Uesugi(上杉真人), Yuji Kaneko(金子裕司), and Hisashi Hayashi(林尚志) will create Kaiju-themed games.

Next, I will introduce new games that I take notice of.

1.Hisui no Syonin(翡翠の商人)(Jade Trader)

This is a bidding game.
Eight cards are revealed in each round. Each player declares how many cards does he want. The player who declared the smallest number takes cards. The remaining players bid for rest of the cards and repeat it until every player takes cards.
The player can declare 0.5 less than the number he wants to take. If he does so, he returns one card from his hand to the center.

A novel, simple, highly sophisticated bidding game. Fantastic!

The designer Hiroshi Nishimura(西村裕)is famous for National Economy(ナショナルエコノミー) series. He will also publish “National Economy Glory(ナショナルエコノミーグローリー)”, the third of National Economy series.
The illustrator is Tori Hasegawa(長谷川登鯉). I have introduced him in past article.

2.HYAKKATEN

“Hyakkaten(百貨店)” means a department store in Japanese.
In this game, players manage a department store. First, players invite tenants. At this time, players can equip escalators to guide customers.
Next, bid the right to move customers. When customers arrive at stores with the same color, the customers do the shopping and shop owner and player who moved the customer make a profit.
The money management is challenging, and making a route with escalators is enjoyable.

3.συνομιλία (Sinomilia)

“Synomilia” means conversation in Greece.
This game is a two-player competitive game.
Both players predict how many chips will be put at the center when the round ends and put a number card face down. Then, take turns with each other and choose to place a chip or pass. The round ends when the conditions are met such that both players pass in succession.
When the end of the round, the player with a smaller difference between the number of center chips and the number on a card played wins the round.
To win, it is important to imagine and guide the opponent's psychology.

Perhaps I will set up a booth again at the next Tokyo Game Market, so I may not be able to report it.
