Japan's new indie board games in 2019 autumn

2019 is almost over. This year, I launched Kozo Games, and my blog has been updated less frequently. Sorry.

Now, I'll introduce some Japanese indie board games published in 2019 autumn.

1.SCOUT!

"SCOUT!" is a ladder-climbing game.
Players can't rearrange their cards during the game. In a player's turn, the player has two options.
The first one is to play the highest set (of consecutive or same-valued cards) and take the previous one as points.
The second one is to take one card from the previous set. This action is called "Scout". The player can put the chosen card anywhere in his hand.
By using "Scout" well, you can play many cards at once as a set.
It's a light and exciting card game.

2.Project Universe

In the "Project Universe", players run a space transportation company and transports beans and water to the space station. (Designers of the game often include beans in their work.)
At the beginning of the round, players first prepare for transport on the ground - taking orders for transportation, collecting resources, improving spacecraft, and developing technology. When a player takes an order, the player can replenish workers. Once you launch a spaceship, you cannot act on the ground until the end of the round.
When you take action, your time is spent. If you overwork beyond your time limit, you must pay overtime payment.
This is a gamer's game where resources and time management are important.

3.Planet Plant

In "Planet Plant", players become space farmers, grow and sell flowers and earn money.

When a player plants a seedling in his field, the flower will bloom after three rounds. When selling a blooming flower, it sells higher if the flower is in season.
Each flower has a special effect.  Some special effects are effective at the moment the flower blooms, while others have an effect while the flower is in the field.
Players must cultivate strategically while taking advantage of the special effects of flowers.

4.Shizuoka Fugaku Rokkei(しずおか冨嶽六景)

“Shizuoka Fugaku Rokkei” is a memory game with six kinds of Mt.Fuji cards.

First, a player plays a card. Then the next player decides who owns the card the previous player played and places it face down in front of any player.
The players repeat this alternately until the deck runs out.  Reveal cards and add points for odd-numbered cards and deduct points for even-numbered cards.
This game is sold only in Kazamidori, board games store in Shizuoka. It’s very good as a souvenir.

5.Volcanus(ボルカルス)

This is the first game of "Kaiju on the Earth" series. "Volcunus" is a game where one monster player attacking Tokyo and human players defending Tokyo play against each other.
The monster moves around with lava, destroying landmarks and attacking citizens. Humans study monsters while evacuating citizens and develop means of attack.
Players pla6ce their cards face down and decide what to do. The human players can consult who puts what card, but since the consultation is heard by the monster player, the content to be spoken must be carefully selected.

6.Gorilla Jinro(ゴリラ人狼)

"Gorilla Jinro" is a kind of werewolf game. Players play the role of a gorilla and look for poachers lurking inside the player. However, players can only speak in grunts. During the game, players learn human words little by little and increase usable words.
This is the weirdest and funniest game of Japanese indie games this autumn.

As I said before, I've been busy selling board games in my store these days, and probably overlooked many games.
I will continue to introduce Japanese and Asian games as far as I can, so I hope you read this blog in 2020.
