Board games in Indonesia

I went to Indonesia in September. I visited board game shops, board game cafes, and events like C3 AFA Jakarta and Popcon Asia.

BEKRAF and APIBGI

This picture is a signboard I found in Popcon Asia.
BEKRAF (Badan Ekonomi Kreatif Indonesia) is an Indonesian government organization that promotes the creative industry. And APIBGI (Asociasi Pegiat Industri Board Game Indonesia) is an association of Indonesian board game industry founded in 2017. These organizations support the Indonesian board game industry.
If the support of these organizations works well, the board game industry in Indonesia can develop significantly.

In C3 AFA and Popcon Asia, there were large board game booths. I played many Indonesian board games and had fun. I'll show some of them.

Candrageni

This is an ambitious game that contains many mechanisms such as worker placement and grid movement. It is also a feature that the game may end without a winner due to natural disasters.
This game was published by Indonesian newspaper publisher Kompas.

Orang Rimba

In this game, players represent two members of the Orang Rimba tribe. They protect forests from people who destroy it, collect resources, process and trade them and achieve the purpose.
In this game, a unique twist on resource management has been added due to deforestation.

I visited some board game shops in Jakarta. I'll introduce one of them.

Arcanum Hobbies

This shop set up a booth in C3 AFA.
I made friend with clerks in the shop and introduced some Japanese board games to them.

I went to Bali island during this stay. In Bali, the first board game cafe started in this September.

Downtime

The premier board game cafe in Bali.
Although the number of board games was relatively small, the meal was delicious, the clerks were kind, and it was comfortable.

Conclusion

My board game exploration in Indonesia was very interesting. The most of Indonesian board game was crude, but Indonesian board game world has great potential for further development in the future because the government and big company Kompas have great interest.

BEKRAF and APIBGI will sell 24 games in Spiel '18. If you're interested in Indonesian board games, let's check it!
